The Workers' Party of Korea (KWP) flag consists of a hammer and a sickle (used by communist states to represent the proletariat and the peasantry) and a traditional Korean calligraphy brush to represent the intellectual class. When hung vertically the emblem is in the middle of the flag whereas when horizontal it is on the upper left side.
The Korean People's Army flag is similar to the National Flag, with the red star being surrounded by a golden circle with leaves. The numbers in gold 4.25 represent the foundation day of the KPA, April 25th (1948).
The Juche Philosophy was developed by President Kim Il Sung showing a shift from traditional Marxism-Leninism and thus, unlike the soviet satellites, total independence from the Soviet Union.
